Part 2 of a 3 part series from the view of a dependent wife in the military. This series should be required reading for all wives of the military; especially new couples to the military life. As a former Marine dependent wife, it really brought back so many memories of the struggle that I had in trying to understand some of the things that the military doesn't take into account when it comes to the family. The emotional struggle, the financial struggle, and, as in my case, the abuse struggle. I hope things are better than when I was in back in the late 90's and early 2000's. If your not a wife in the military, please read this and understand what the true sacrifice is for the families left behind here at home. Fantastic job Cari and I look forward to book #3!
Madness is stating it mildly ! how this wife keeps her sanity is amazing! raising 3 kids mostly on her own while husband is in the the Air Force, deployed every year! moving and not moving, while husband is also trying to further his career and expecting his wife to ( Help ) with that by joining the Officers Wives Club! not to mention crisis with her and his families! This truly takes a strong person to accomplish all this! And for the most part she ( Heather ) does! I loved this book for so many reasons! Cari truly makes you feel your are experiencing everything that Heather and her family is going trough! Her aloneness, her frustration, her kids are so adorable! Elizabeth's frustration of being the big sister but so mature for her age and on the verge of her teens! Ethan too cute for words, your average little boy/ rascal! and how adorable Maddy is ! Rick ( Husband ) is what I imagine a Soldier at that time to be! I loved him, mad at him right along with Heather! This book really brought home whats happened in the 90's. whats coming (9-11) and whats happening NOW! In the U.S! ( Cival unrest,Paris and al over the world)! It's everything I want in a book about this subject! you will laugh , cry, scream, rejoice and morn right along with this family ! I have not yet read the first book in the series, which is rare for me, even though it can be read first, I never do that! i always go in order! so looking forward to continue to reading the " Yellow Ribbon Chronicles "! and lastly " If this book does not inspire you to " Tie a Yellow Ribbon" for " OUR " soldiers I don't know what will! this book SO deserves to be a movie or T.V series! was given and ARC for and honest review!
This book is a look at the lives and sacrifices of military personnel and their families. Rick has already been deployed once and is due to be sent away again leaving his wife Heather and children, Elizabeth and Ethan, to deal in his absence. They also have over their head the possibility that they could get orders to move to a different base. It really becomes difficult when family problems arise back home in Texas when they are based in Oregon. Heather is doing the best she can to hold her family and marriage together during the constant changes. The higher Rick progresses in the military, the more is expected of Heather. I really enjoyed reading this book and it can be read as a standalone. I stayed up too late reading because I couldn't put it down and it has great characters that will grab your attention. * I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
So often the “support our military” campaigns do a great job of focusing on the service members but overlook the families. “Military Madness” tells the story of what service means to the spouses and children of those serving on active duty in the armed forces.
This book, the second in the Yellow Ribbon Chronicles trilogy, opens at a dark time in Heather’s life, then moves quickly forward through the ups and downs faced by military families. Written in first-person, present tense, this novel reads like the personal journal of an Air Force wife. It's set primarily in the late 1990s and concludes in 2001. Each chapter includes a date; as you read, you'll likely recall what you were doing when certain national and world events were occurring, and that will bond you to the Johnson family.
If you enjoyed the television series “Army Wives,” you’ll enjoy this story of adjusting, surviving and even thriving in the challenging world of a military wife and mother.
I received a copy of this book, "Military Madness" from the author, Cari Schaeffer. I loved it, except for the cliffhanger ending; I don't mind a series, but I don't like cliffhangers. This is part two of the story of Rick and Heather, and their families.
Ms. Schaeffer is a very good writer. She has a flair for telling a story. Her plot is solid. The story moves well; it feels real, because it is real. Her characters are good, strong, decent men and women. Her editing and proofreading teams are excellent.
If you like good, well written, true to life love stories, with interesting characters, this is the book, and series, for you.
I didn't read the first book in this series, but this one can be read as a standalone. I was engrossed in finding out how this Air Force wife had so many trials to go through while her husband was deployed again and again. She was strong and had a good friend who was much support for her. Even when her husband was not deployed, he had to work long hours leaving her often to raise their children on her own.
I cried and laughed and felt every emotion that she went through. The author made the characters come alive and the situations were realistic and yet, dramatic. This would make a very good movie. I can't wait to read the sequel!
Military Madness is the second book in a trilogy series by this author. A continuation of the character Heather as she learns what life is like as a career military spouse; the ups and downs, raising a family as an often single parent and the constant threat of deployment of her husband. As a 30 year military spouse myself, I thoroughly enjoyed traveling this path with Heather and recalling some of my own experiences. Cari writes believable, true to life characters and story lines. She also thoughtfully explains some of the nuances of military life so that her readers with no military connection will not feel unable to understand what Heather is experiencing. After reading the first book in this series, I anxiously awaited the launch of Military Madness! You will laugh with Heather, cry with her,and feel like you know her! Another wonderful book, Cari Schaeffer!
This is a story of life in the military and how it affects not only the person serving, but others in the family as well. I had no idea of all the procedures to be faced and pressures put on the family members. It made me really consider the sacrifices being made by all to protect our country. The scene with Rick explaining why he wouldn’t be at his son’s and daughter’s birthday was insightful and touching. I received an ARC for an honest review.
This is the first book I read by Carl Schaeffer and I just loved it! The story is very well written and leaves us thinking for a long time in all the events. I love Heather and Rick's story, even they have faced many difficulties over time. I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Military Madness is book two from The Yellow Ribbon Chronicles series. This book is a must read for anyone who have been in the military. Being a former military spouse, this book truly spoke to my heart. I laughed and I cried throughout. I give it a well deserved 5 stars.
