Channelling My Inner Oldster - with laughs
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2019
Didn’t know what to expect from this new offering by Romney Humphrey, but what I got was a ton of laughs from a woman who apparently leads the same life I do. Humphrey is a wonderful addition to the firmament of fresh women humorists that lighten our lives, a talent sorely needed at this moment. With an amazing ability to speak to one’s own near-exact experiences, she’s a wee bit reminiscent Erma Bombeck (you’ll remember her if you’re age-appropriate), but more far more personal, much less constrained and, of course, written for this millennium. There’s also a hint of Nora Ephron, tackling new and, I think, funnier subjects. My original concern that it might be too short was answered by the satisfying richness of Humphrey’s excellent writing. If you’re over 60, as I am, you’ll find yourself in the company of a witty friend you’ll feel you’ve known forever. Possible book club idea.
