To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
101 Ideas - some great ideas for my mood board, but definitely most items out of my price range as another reviewer noted. Beauty section - Love hearing about new products, especially the Beauty Passport feature. Books section - Picked up some great books based on these write ups.
What I don't like:
Bathroom Confidential - no thanks. Always some scary facts about aging and info on all the new (expensive) procedures required to halt aging, literally this is in every issue. No one over the age of 25 in the "What I Love About Me" section. What, no 40 year old's live in America? Or maybe they just don't love anything about themselves? Issue always turns up at least 10 days after its available in store. ALWAYS! Why subscribe??!!
I got this for $5 so the price was good. But had I reviewed it in the store first I would not spend regular prices on this magazine. It is OK to thumb through like most have said but it is NOT a great magazine. I cant tell what "AGE" it is for. I cant see many people in their 20's or 30's affording clothes in there...not real people especially... so I am guessing it is geared for rich celeb types that have money to burn. So far I have seen one article that I may read... but mostly ads in this. It is OK for the price but I wont be renewing the subscription. It did come in 4 weeks though for the first issue.
I've been really disappointed for a while now with the changes Marie Claire has made. While it's held onto to the "real world" stories, it's fashion content is useless. I always loved Marie Claire because it was fashion that one could actually wear in everyday life and I always found myself ripping out pages to save for outfit inspiration later. It's now become a pseudo-Elle with busy pages featuring awful expensive high fashion crap that looks tacky and no one can afford. I've been holding out for a while now hoping it would get better but I've just been disappointed again and again. It's not what it once was and after being a constant subscriber for 6+years I will finally be canceling my subscription. It's a shame.
I bought this when Amazon was having a special sale ($5.00 per year). I'm not in the targeted age range of this magazine as I am 50-something, but I still find it fun to read. I like finding out what is current in the world of fashion and makeup, plus Marie-Claire has articles that are appealing to women of all ages.
I'm not sure exactly who the intended audience is for this magazine but apparently it's not middle class women in their mid-20's. If I or any of my friends followed the fashion advice in this magazine, we'd be broke! If you can afford to buy $400 blouses and $600 sweaters, it might be an ok choice for you. There are tidbits here and there that I found helpful in the magazine but those were few and far between. Overall, the issues of this magazine that I received were not appealing at all.
I don't have any time to read magazines anymore, but if I did, I would get this subscription again. It has a lot more than just beauty tips. There are real articles (not just about Taylor Swift and stuff nobody even cares about). I miss my subscription, but I know even for the cheap price, it would just go to waste.
I ordered back in September. I understand that they might not have shipped right away. I waited until November, then called. They said I was not scheduled to receive any issues until January because that was the next cycle. I said fine. I was a little irritated, but fine. I called again the end of January, after I hadn't received an issue, and was informed that it was in the mail. It is now March and I have have received nothing. I should have listened to the other reviews stating the same problem, but I let the cheap price sway me. That, and i thought, how can they not send ANY issues? Well, its true. And not just with this magazine. I am on here today to write a review from the other magazine from this same company that I have not yet received. I would give no stars if I could. This seems simply outrageous.
