I have written a number of reviews of classic rock artists over the years. Recently, I was reviewing my Neil Young recordings and listened to my 1972 vinyl release mastered by Lee Hulko, considered by many to be the best recording of this classic album. I had just purchased the 2009 remastered vinyl by Chris Bellman which also received very positive reviews, so I decided to do my own A/B comparison. I tend to favor the original versions of these classic rock albums, and was frankly ready to be disappointed with the newer version. In my opinion, recognizing that there are many variables that could cause this, I have to say that there was NO comparison - the Chris Bellman version is so infinitely better in so many ways that if I could only have one version of Harvest, it would be this one. The tracks just seem to jump off the vinyl with the most incredible sound stage and presence imaginable! After listening to the 1972 record, I actually did not want to listen to the whole 2009 version, but I did, and I am glad that I did. The 2009 remaster is a revelation for anyone who likes vinyl and has the equipment to make it sing! I have to say that it was like hearing some of these tracks for the first time, a comment that I consider to be the highest compliment that any recording can ever receive. If you are a fan of Neil Young and realize how high a bar he set for every recording he ever made, then you need to get this 2009 Chris Bellman remaster, and get prepared to be blown away! This is about as good as it can get! 5 star, highly recommended!!!
