Author Stacy Claflin knows how to write suspense!!! Alex and Zoey, teenagers in love, have a baby girl, Ariana. Wanting the best for her, Zoey's parents adopt and raise Ariana. Fast forward eleven years and all the talk of stranger danger to this bright girl is ignored in one tiny moment. Ariana it taken!
Alex's sister, Macy, survived a similar tragedy. The impact of severe stress on a family is clear in this storyline. Relationships suffer; Alex and Zoey barely speak to each other. Zoey and her fiancé immediately have problems after Ariana is kidnapped. Bad memories are re-lived. Alex, who has been somewhat of a loser after high school, never reaching his potential, is overwhelmed with anger and guilt. He is determined to find Ariana before it is too late.
This storyline is so clever, complex, and fascinating. So many social issues are touched upon, social media trauma, FBI and local police interaction, and emotions such as denial, grief, rage, and blame! Alex gets understanding and help from an unusual source; easy to question reality on this part of the story, but it ads to the complexity.
"Girl in Trouble" is a suspense, thriller, mystery, and romance all wrapped 🎁 in one book. No cliffhanger, but surprises for sure! This is Book 1 of an Alex Mercer Series? I'm excited to see where his life goes next; Book 1 is an extremely good read!
