I got this bag at the very beginning of the school year, and I thought it was authentic after checking the reviews and it seemed safe. Nobody at my school had a kanken, so I’ve been using it for majority of the school year without too much of a problem.
It’s now March, and some of my friends have also pitched a kanken, yet.... theirs is actually authentic. Everything my backpack has is a very impressive copy, such as the reflective logo, the zippers, the “H” stitching and labels inside (I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these are actually authentic). The material of my bag is listed as “polyvinyl alkohol”, but it’s ISN’T actually polyvinyl alkohol. I compared it to my friend’s kanken (the authentic one), and polyvinyl alkohol is supposed to have a more durable, sturdier, stiffer, and weather-grip-like feel to it. My backpack is flimsier, and made out of cheaper fabric that is starting to have strings near the seams, which is not typical of a kanken backpack.
I’m unsure on what to do next, as I spent $80 on something that should’ve been the real thing, and got this from a seller that was guaranteed to be authentic. All I can say is, I wouldn’t recommend buying from amazon, but rather buy from the official website, Nordstrom, or Urban Outfitters.
