This is so close to being a 5 star rated series.... and I applaud the film makers for the most part. Breaking down a multi decade rivalry and then dissecting a decade of clashes in 4 hours requires omissions that hurt both sides of the story.
My main gripe is that while we find out about the front office genius that Red was for the Celitics they omitted some key elements to the Lakers building their team to keep pace with the Celtics like the addition of Mychel Thompson who was key to matching McHales length and helping as Jabbar's time was fading and I could mention more. We did get an extended piece on Bill Walton and what he brought to the Celtics in a year they didn't face the Lakers in the finals and did get an extended look at the Len Bias death though so it seems the film makers were as most of the media was East Coast biased (pun intended). Another reason for the deduction of a star is not only for that slightly lop sided film making but the constant racist rants of trumpeter Wynton Marsalis , boy I wish the time they wasted on him would have been spent with basketball players, or just about anybody actually a part of this great rivalry. One more real big negative is that this over 4 hour presentation has only 11 chapters... which unless you have 4 plus hours to watch you have to pick your spots to start and stop viewing very carefully.
I loved this and the comments of the players. I don't like how this DVD was set up. Its 4 hours long and when I stopped and started watching on another day, I had to skip to get to where I was watching before. Poorly set up.
