I really liked the movie, but at one point there was really too many CGI effects. Started to distract from the plot and acting. I think Benedict Cumberpatch did a good job, but I'll say this is one I can go a year or more before watching again. Not sorry I purchased, just sorry someone didn't curtail some of the effects that started to get in the way of what could have been a really great movie. Wanted to give it a five, or a four, but in honesty I think it's just a three.
Awesome special effects. Scenes giving background on Dr. Strange seemed really forced and too cookie cutter. Cast was well selected. The biggest flaw was the pivotal scene. It came with little cost or effort for Dr. Strange. It's like the effort came cheap so it was a let-down. I want to see the protagonist under strain and effort for their metamorphosis. Also really wish there was more at the end to tease what negative consequences Dr Strange triggered. 3 stars.
Eh, it was okay. I was mostly distracted by the score, which I spent a while trying to place. Turns out they reused the one from from Star Trek (2009). If they modified it at all, it wasn't enough to not be distracting. And now that I think about it, didn't they also reuse the score in the Star Trek Into Darkness, which Benedict Cumberbatch was in . . .
I'd given it 5 stars if the movie hadn't all but slowed down part way through. The lead actor is awesome, the cape is hilarious, and the librarian help to save the movie from being just a so-so movie. Hopefully the next one will be much better.
