I bought this pack for 2 reasons, 1) to start a car after 2 weeks in a parking lot and 2) to provide power for lighting. Test results so far 1) car did not get stuck yet, and 2) lights died prematurely, way too prematurely. The vendor claims 18,000mAH, well I tested it and it dies right at 4,500mAH, that's about 1/4 of what is advertised. At the same time documentation states 66WH, that's closer (4.5 x 12 = 54) but still not there. Since people buy batteries for their power, this is clearly deceiving, be it ignorant or deliberate.
The good = through the discharge, the pack holds voltage very constant. Another good = the 12V low power outlet is limited to 2 amps. They say 3 amps, I measured 2. But it is a good thing, because the small 5.5mm power connector and its wiring could not handle that much current and something would toast. I also liked the digital charge display. It pretty much tracked my measurements, the problem is that it displays charge as a percentage of full charge, which is just a quarter of what's advertised. Since I got caught by the impressive 18,000 number and it betrayed that miserably, it is two stars from me.
Purchased in 2017. In 2018 It FAILED to START my car, when car battery went dead. I received a full refund. DBPOWER CUSTOMER SERVICE eagerly rushed me a brand new unit, no cost. 2nd = NG. They made sure next replacement was fresh and worked well - and that I was pleased. A new full 3 year warranty restarted on the replacement jump starter. The DBPOWER 600A has the highest ratings, by a vast quantity of buyers. Their customer service gets 5 star rating too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dec 2018, the units failed to charge via AC ADAPTERS after few months(??) 3RD unit will still recharge via CAR ADAPTER only. I keep DB POWER at home inside. I don't trust it out on the road. ( I purchased different brand jump starter 1 year ago, which I've kept in the car.)
I bought it at end of August 2018. I charged it in full and used it to start my Honda SUV. It worked very well for the first time. Today I forgot turning off my car lights and car's battery went to dead. I tried to use my jump starter the 2nd time but it was dead too - not working at all. I had to turn to others to help me out. Its instruction reads to make sure it is over 30% charged before using it. My jump starter showed 51% power. I don't really know how much charged power is good enough to start a Honda SUV. I don't want to just spend the money to buy a one-time toy. I have contacted the seller to see if it is possible to replace one. I will update how thing is going here.
The item came with 64% charge and am not sure if that's normal as most people said it should come with almost 100% unless turned on/used for charging/jump starting before. So I am not quite sure if this is an open-boxed item that sometimes came from customer returned and I just received that item NOT the intact one. Second, I never found a charging port for my hp laptop; none of these ports (came with this item) do not fit the hp laptop that surprised me a lot as how could they miss a popular brand like "hp". Was this a manufacturing flaw? The bottom line I can't charge my computer and it would be a heck on a long trip. I tried to contact amazon customer service but every time they told me to contact the seller. I did but never get a response from them. Hope you will give a second thought before buying this item.
After a few months the charging port of the batter broke - the plug broke of into the device itself. The customer service was excellent and they easily replaced it. However, I am concerned about the reliability of the product. I used it once to restart my car battery and was pretty confused about whether I was doing it right but then it worked.
Got stuck - it didnt work at all! Only thing is can charge is your cell phone. Didnt start my jeep and it was at 86% charge. Also wouldn't jump-start my boat. They sent me a new one, when I get it, I will see if it works any better.
Have not yet used device to jump start a car. Seems to be well made. Has a decent storage case. Instruction book recommends discharged the battery ever 3 months but does not provide instructions on how to do this safely and without damaged the battery. Instructions caution to let battery cool after use. So this implies a “rapid” discharge might be dangerous or might damage the battery.
Today I helped a friend to start his dead truck. Last charge was probably a year ago if not even 2, and I had 30% battery left. I charged it to full before used it. I used it to charge even my phone when I was on trips.UPDATE: I helped my friend once again the next day and the cords died burned, now I have to buy a new one 😡
As I received this product I can not use it as the jumper cables are way to short. I have a 2000 BMW 528i and need about 24" more in length for both negative and positive cables. I will try and talk to DBPower to see if they have a fix or longer jumper cables.
