I usually check out the end of the book after a few chapters. Did not do that with this really exciting book. Jana never disappoints with her wonderful imagination. I just wish she didn’t have to sleep or eat so we could have more books. Always something good and am glad she doesn’t see a psychiatrist.
I gave 5 to all 14 books i listened to but this one does not have audio so i cant read Have the audio 14 books and on the 15th book not give me the option for audio very upsetting I'm hoping it will be added if not I'll give the book back
The absolute best part of this book? NO CELIA! Thank you thank you thank you Ms. DeLeon for listening to your readers' requests to get rid of that Bioche. There is one scene, early on, with Celia but an irritable Sherrif tells her off; and no one goes to her defense. It was awesome. Then we never heard or saw Celia again.
The Trouble Trio solve a murder for their first client and the town considers them to be heroes. It's about time that the townsfolk see Fortune for what she is, not what the Lying Bioche says Fortune is.
The story is very good. I guessed "whodunit" about halfway through but that didn't keep me from enjoying another fun adventure from the Trouble Trio. Love Carter. And then there's Walter. A little surprise awaits readers.
Highly recommend this book, but I also recommend you read the books in the order in which they were written -- which is always my advice for book series.
Speaking of book series: I've recently discovered the Max Springer series by D. Wayne Bird. Like Miss Fortune, Max Springer is former CIA. Less slapstick, more historical, very well researched and well written. If you are a fan of mysteries, I HIGHLY recommend D. Wayne Bird's Max Springer books. So far, that would be Butcher of Chamé followed by Enemies of My Fathers. I understand the third book in the series will be out in about a month. It's called Facing My Demons. Former CIA agent who surrounds himself with strong people, including some phenomenal women. Check it out. You'll be glad you did.
YAY Janet -- thanks for no Celia. There was no Celia in the book before this either when the Troublesome Trio go to Florida. Thank you thank you thank you.
Jana DeLeon has served us up another tasty mystery. Fortune Redding, former CIA agent, is starting her new civilian life as a PI. Ida Belle and Gertie, two former spies during the Vietnam era, are her employees. Gertie gets things started at the Turkey Run. This turkey run since it is held in Sinful, LA is not merely a running event; in this event wild turkeys are captured and then released to be captured again and placed back in cages until they are slaughtered by another team of people. The turkey run is mainly children running after the wild turkeys all except for Gertie who wants her chance of winning. Gertie was closing in on her bird when it dived into a bulldozer and Gertie dove in after it dislodging the brake. The bulldozer ran over the new basketball hoop and dislodged a chunk of asphalt revealing a corpse underneath.
After the corpse was identified as Venus a former inhabitant of Sinful who had stolen from or blackmailed nearly every inhabitant of the town. She had recently been seen in town and had been threatened by the owner of the Swamp Bar, Whiskey. Whiskey becomes Fortunes’s first client. Fortune is concerned about how her boyfriend, Sheriff Carter will feel about her client. Fortunately, he takes it very well.
The problem with this case is that there are so many suspects that it takes a while to reach a conclusion. However, it is tied up before Thanksgiving and Fortune’s first taste of fried turkey. Another issue hinted at the beginning of the book is also resolved.
Swamp Team 3 is back in full force and has their first paying case. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next book to come out. You can't help but love the characters. Ida Belle doesn't take crap from anyone and Gertie is well, Gertie with trouble and mishap following where ever she goes, and Fortune finally says those three words to Carter that everyone, or at least I have been waiting to hear. Of course Celia is still a major annoyance for everyone but hearing Sheriff Lee tell her off and threaten to arrest her for being a pain in the butt was worth the price of the book alone. To say this is another must have from Jana if putting it mildly and I’m anxiously awaiting the next installment!!
I really loved this book. Fortune is getting so much better at her job, and is gaining confidence as a Private Investigator. Gertie, is well, Gertie in so many things, but as a team hired to clear a member of Sinful of a murder he didn't commit, they excelled in their investigation. I also liked that Carter is more accepting of Fortunes chosen work, and they mostly got along in that area. In this book in particular, I think Jana DeLeon has settled down into the next phase of this series after Fortune quit the CIA, and I really look forward to the next book, which is supposed to come out at the end of the year. Yeah to that! As always, some of the scenes with Gertie's shenanigans were laughing out loud funny.
I don't want to put any spoilers in my review, but a few of the things in this book seemed a bit forced. I know it is hard to find funny stuff to happen when there have been so many books before, but this book did not have as many laugh out loud moments as the last one. I liked the mystery/murder in this book. And of course it is so much fun to visit all my favorite characters again. I see another book is coming out this year so my guess is that Jana is planning to write future books with holidays and the celebrations involved in them, I like that idea. This series is truly the type that you can re-read in a few years, and enjoy them just as much. I would LOVE to see a new book that combines the people in Sinful with the Mudbug characters. Maybe not the ghost, but a mystery that takes place in both towns.
I must say I have loved every book in this series as have my mom and son! For those complaining about no audiobook, the author does not control that. She releases the book, then it goes to the people at audible where it gets in line to be made. She has a contract with them. It always takes a while after release for them to make it. Some authors delay the book release so they come out together but she doesn’t. I swear people will complain about anything these days. Read the book!! I promise you will laugh until you have tears rolling down your face :)
I've read the whole series and I normally laugh so much at the ladies antics that I'm often afraid I'll disturb my boyfriend. Unfortunately, this book didn't entertain me as much as the previous books. That said, I'll still read the next one when it comes out.
Once again the ladies of Sinful were involved in solving a murder. Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie continue to cause havoc. Everyone in town knew Fortune was a CIA agent, now retired. She has to do something in her retirement so she becomes a private detective and hires the girls to work for/with her. As in all the books in this series most of the book is laugh out loud hilarious. I highly recommend this book. However, if you haven't read the series, I highly recommend you go to the very first book and read them on order. All the books are great but each book essentially picks up at the end or expands the story from the previous book.
Jana DeLeon is a gifted storyteller and writer. I’ve read all of the Miss Fortune book series more than once and laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes! This one is no different. An escape to Sinful, LA with Fortune, Gertie, and Ida Belle is a hilarious wild ride with old friends and a cast of quirky characters. Fortune lands her first official PI case and the girls are all in!
