5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Product!
January 21, 2018
It’s great! Did everything I wanted it to do and more. For the other reviewers who are complaining it wastes tape obviously didn’t read the directions. To fix the “problem” they are having you just have to change the margins, which are full, half or narrow. I attached a picture with the difference between full margins and narrow. It’s all pretty simple and can’t wait to label everything!

1.0 out of 5 starsDo not buy this label maker. Brother is intentionally trying to screw you.
September 19, 2018
Whoever's responsible for the anti-consumer design practices should be locked in a dark closet for the rest of his life with just enough Lego bricks that he'll never not step on one.

Here's a short list of just a few of the examples of how Brother hates you:

1) This device comes with absolutely nothing except a tiny spool of "sample" label. No batteries, no adapter, no anything.

2) If you're printing a label with a single word, expect to use about three times as much label as you'd use with a label maker that didn't hate you. This thing has a FULL INCH of margin on both sides by default. The lowest margin setting, "narrow," brings the right side margin down to about 1/5th of an inch, but the left side margin will never be less than an entire inch. At the lower margin settings the thing will print dots on the label to show you where to manually cut the label to match the opposite margin. Not only is Brother deliberately designing the product to make you waste probably more than half of your label roll on scrap, these unapologetic jerks make you put in effort and actively participate in getting screwed over.

3) This thing takes SIX AAA batteries. You might ask why it'd need so many, and the answer to that is that Brother wants you to get tired of constantly recharging more batteries than your charger will hold, or buying a ton of disposable AAAs. They really want you to buy the AC adapter that for some reason doesn't come with the product, even though 9 VDC adapters cost less than a dollar each in bulk. You might think "oh, that won't be a problem for me, I'm not going to use it all the time," but Brother has you covered there as well. This thing will drain the batteries in less than a month from just sitting on the shelf. There's no physical off button short of removing the batteries, and the label maker has seemingly been deliberately designed to have an enormous power draw in the "off" mode.

4) The AC adapter is the single most hostile thing I've seen from a consumer electronics product in as long as I can remember. The input is 9 VDC. Sort of unusual, small electronics tend to be either 5 VDC or 12 VDC, but 9 VDC makes sense if your objective is to plow through six 1.5 volt AAA batteries at a time. There are some of you like me who'll think that's no big deal, you'll just reach into your drawer full of random adapters and rummage around until you find something with the number 9 on it, but THEY'RE STILL NOT DONE. The adapter is tip negative. They reversed the polarity.

THEY REVERSED THE POLARITY OF THE ADAPTER.

Unless you for whatever reason own other Brother products, chances are that you've never owned or even seen a tip negative adapter. In a normal universe with a normal vendor that isn't evil and doesn't despise you on a deep and personal level, the connector on your AC adapter is tip positive. Tip positive means that the positive voltage is on the inside of the barrel at the end of the connector. This is a good thing, because you don't really want exposed positive conductors. Brother did the opposite of the good thing. They made it so that the outside of the barrel at the end of the connector is the positive. That round metal surface on the outside of the connector on the Brother adapter is positive voltage, so when you unplug the label maker to take it somewhere and leave the adapter behind, you have live voltage just flailing about coming into contact with whatever's on your desk.

The ONLY reason to do this is so they KNOW you won't have an adapter, because NOBODY ANYWHERE WOULD EVER SHIP SOMETHING THAT DUMB, except of course for Brother, and so you'll have to go to them to buy it. The product name for the adapter is AD-24ES. Throw that in the Amazon search bar and go take a look, then come back here.

Yep. That's the adapter that costs less than a dollar to make, selling for TWENTY-TWO DOLLARS. I don't think you'd be able to find a more expensive 9 VDC adapter on Amazon. Or the rest of the Internet, for that matter.

Remember what I said about deliberately draining your batteries to force you into paying the 2,000% markup for their obscene junk? Look at these reviews:

"good product will work on brother model PT- D200 save me alot of AAA battery, 6 battery each time will drain the battery quick. This adapter must have. AAA battery $$ more than you spend on this."

"I've had an older model labeler for years, requires 6 AAs. I had some rechargeable alkalines that worked great in it but they eventually went bad, NiMHs seem to not last very long. Finally saw this and ordered right away. No more battery problems"

"I am a labeling fanatic and thus go through A LOT of tape and A LOT of batteries. Even using rechargeable batteries in my two P-Touch printers was costing me a fortune, so I purchased this AC adapter."

That all sounds so similar, almost as if someone had deliberately crippled the product to make people buy an AC adapter that should have been included with the product, but is instead selling as an accessory for the same price or more than most people paid for the label maker itself. Those were just the first three reviews. They had all given the product five stars. Don't be these guys. Please.

This product is going right back to Amazon. Save yourselves the effort of having to do the same, and go buy a different label maker.

I hate you, Brother.

3.0 out of 5 starsMinimizing label waste
November 28, 2015
I've used different model P-Touch printers and they all seem to waste a lot of tape. However, you can minimize that by printing several different labels at the same time, with a few spaces in between. So don't print "Sage", and then "Thyme", and then "Rosemary", but print "Sage Thyme Rosemary", and use scissors to cut them apart. You can also print up to 9 copies of a label.

This is the most frustrating piece of equipment. Just bought this and it worked great for a few weeks, then I got the "Battery Low" sign like so many other reviewers. You think "Ok, simple. Just replace the batteries". I put in new ones and the message won't go away. The machine does not come with an adapter so I removed the batteries and tried using an adapter that I had from another piece of equipment that fit it. The messages came on (so obviously it was getting some power thru the adapter) but it keeps telling me that I need to replace the batteries and it won't print anything more that four letters. I have wasted over an hour of my life and a foot of tape on this stupid thing. When I check the online trouble shooting advice from Brother they just mention the obvious....."Replace with new batteries". Duh! Ridiculous. What a waste! And also, like so many others have complained....it wastes a ton of tape even when it is working correctly which I would not even mind at this point. I just need this machine to work.

4.0 out of 5 starsNice label maker, but one major complaint still not rectified (excessive tape waste)
October 24, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I have my share of Brother label makers, a PT-80 which is relatively old, and a PT-1010. Both have more complaints about wasted tape on the front end of the label, but Brother fails to address and rectify this problem. Considering how expensive the tape is, users would appreciate this problem taken care of! But it never is.
Regardless, this is a nice labeller. You best keep the instruction pamphlet close by, because if you ever want to use one of the decorative options, you'll need this as a reference to get an easier/better visual on what you'd get to print out. Naturally you don't want to waste tape by printing and hating it. I did glance through the instruction pamphlet to get the gist of what's going on with this, but after playing with it a few times and printing a few test labels, I easily got the hang of it. But still needed/preferred the pamphlet to choose my frame designs.
This label maker really is really necessary if you want to print cutesy labels, for packages, for jars, for plant sales, but for the basic font only labels, this one really isn't necessary. I like to give extra plants away to friends and family and a cute printed labels is really a nice touch.

Anyone from Brother reading this review: PLEASE address the waste at the beginning of the label, on your future label makers!

And, you can adjust the wasted length at the end of the label (hit LABEL button, select MARGIN, select NARROW, although selecting NARROW gives you the false observation that the beginning of the tape margin will also disappear; it does not).

Seriously, Brother. Your product is DESIGNED to waste tape. I had high hopes for this labeler. However, when a simple 1 inch long label is printed on 3 inches of tape. I'm calling BS. It is a poor design that could have been addressed in design. It apparent the design team was more intent on assisting the tape sales team. Bad idea.

You go to the Brother website to find a solution, and their solution is "that's the way it is designed"

Frankly, this is a painful write a review like this. I really wanted to like it. But the tape wastage kills the deal for me.

This label maker is an organized persons dream come true! I always wanted a label maker and when I saw this on sale for only $9.99 I had to have it; what a steal. There's a HUGE variety of fonts and 99 different frames to choose from to personalize the labels. Some reviewers stated the machine wastes a lot of space when printing labels but I just played with the options on the machine and now it uses a little less. Also, if you purchase the tapes in the Eco Friendly packaging you'll save money! I am very satisfied with my purchase!

5.0 out of 5 starsLabel makers get better and better!
September 27, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
Brother P-touch Label Maker
Model: PT-D210
Amazon price: $39.99

I’ve used label makers for years. I couldn’t live without one in my desk. The two leading competitors are Brother and Casio. I prefer Brother mostly because the backing paper is split and is easy to remove. Trying to peel the backing off a Casio label is a time-consuming exercise in frustration.

The Brother PT-D210 unit is a little over a pound in weight and measures about 6 by 6 inches and is 2-1/2 inches tall. At $39,99, it’s priced well. It requires six AA batteries which are not included. A T-Power AC adapter is only $10.99 from Amazon, so depending on your usage, it may well pay for itself in batteries alone.

Be aware that Brother’s TZe printing tapes are where you’ll spend money. Each tape is about 26 feet long so if your average label is 4 inches, you’ll get about 75 labels per cartridge. The cartridges vary in price because this label maker can use four different widths of tape - 0.13” (3.5mm), 0.23” (6mm), 0.35” (9mm), and 0.47” (12mm). In addition to these widths, Brother offers colors, clear and transparent tape, and even metallics. They also make specialty tapes using iron-on fabric, extra-strength adhesive varieties, and flexible tapes for wrapping around wire and cables.

When you purchase tape cartridges, look for packages containing more than one cartridge. They are usually priced better. Currently, Amazon has a two-pack of 1/2” black on white tape for $18.98 ($9.49 each). If you get 75 labels per cartridge, that’s only about 13 cents per label.

The PT-D210 unit has built-in software that allows you to print borders, symbols, emojis, patterns, and many other decorative effects. You can choose from fourteen fonts and can stylize each in many ways - bold, italic, outline, shadow, etc. I use labels for clean readability so rarely have a use for these fancy styles. If you are a crafter or have a need for decorative labels, you’ll find a huge variety here.

This Brother P-touch works well and produces tidy labels for organizing your home and office. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 starsVERY impressed.

I am extremely impressed with this label maker. Switching from a cheap dymo ABCD style label maker to this is a huge improvment, and this one is cheaper. So far I've had no issues with this label maker as I thoroughly read the instructions before using. I had a small issue with the label maker wasting tape, but there is a large button on the thing that says "label" where you can change all of that. I've included a picture of the very first print I've made and the second one after I changed the settings. The maker will tell you before you print if there is an issue with your lengths too.

The only big issue that I personally have is there is no horse icon, which is kind of sucky, but it doesn't even slightly effect the quality of the product.

5.0 out of 5 starsWasted margins solution
December 25, 2015
I see a lot of complaints about the wasted margins. Solution: write multiple labels at one time, skipping a space in between, then print/cut. Thus, you just have 1 wasted margin instead of x#. We have an older PT-1830 & we wasted a lot of single prints on margins before realizing the above. Hopefully this works on this newer model as well.
