Great pitcher! Reservoir DOES COME OUT! Follow instructions!

Reading back through the reviews after owning this drives me crazy. If you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, you won't have problems! Simple as that!
First and foremost, THE RESERVOIR DOES COME OUT. It's tight, and it feels like you might crack the plastic if you really start yanking, but it does come out for cleaning. The way I removed it was by tucking the pitcher under my left arm, and with my right thumb and forefinger, I gripped the little recess in the reservoir and wiggled it back and forth while pulling outwards. If the assembly is dry, it will come out just fine. If it's wet, it'll take a little more effort.
For people complaining about the filter, I grant that you may have had a lemon, but from what I can tell, most of the issues experienced will be avoided by FLUSHING THE FILTER WITH WATER BEFORE USE, and DISPOSING OF THE FIRST FEW PITCHERS OF FILTERED WATER, as instructed.
Follow the instructions, keep it refrigerated, clean it periodically, replace your filters when your water stops tasting filtered, and you are unlikely to have problems. I will change my review if this turns out not to be the case.

Not any safer than tap water; does taste better

By water filter, Brita is actually selling you odor remover. Even then I don’t know if it’s placebo. What a sham.
I’d suggest you to buy a water tester and test Brita’s water along with your tap water and bottled water.
My results were:
Tap: 265 ppm
Brita: 261 ppm
Ozarka (mineral spring water): 37 ppm
La croix (for fun): 55 ppm
Disclaimer: I am using their longlast filter and it’s less than a month old. I am purifying 80 oz a day. (It should be lasting 6 months at least).
I’d suggest you to buy a water tester and test Brita’s water along with your tap water and bottled water.

To be clear, I rate this pitcher a 2 but I would rate Brita the company closer to a 4.5. I've used Brita filters for years, but this one lasted the shortest amount of time. Within 3 months the top of the handle started breaking away from the pitcher. First it was just a crack, but gradually within just a few more months and regular use the crack got larger and finally broke. I don't think it was designed well enough to be held by the handle and filled up at the same time. Too much weight.
Luckily Brita replaced my pitcher for free with a similar (and I believe) slightly updated model. So, so far so good. If it breaks again, I'll update this review.

Different from the Brita Pitcher I bought last time and did not realize. When I put the filter in it seems like it is not only going through the filter but running on the sides of it as well, which means some of the water is not going through the filtration system. And yes, it is in correctly. The last one I had I did not have this issue, and also had a flip top to easily refill without taking the whole top off, and had an indicator for the filter change. Those things would be fine with me, my real issue is the water that leaks through the sides of the filter and not through it. =(

I like the larger size of this pitcher. It is heavy when full but is well balanced so it is not unwieldy. The annoying part is that when you get almost to the bottom and are pouring, the lid will fall off and the filter will pop out. Yes it is installed properly and pushed all the way in. I always check to make sure, but the same thing happens every time. I guess it's not a HUGE deal, but it is still annoying!

This pitcher worked fine for a few months but then developed algae in between the clear plastic and the bottom of the white part. The white part does not come out, so water gets trapped there without flow.

I've used a different Brita pitcher for years and the well removed easily for cleaning the pitcher (as well as cleaning the well). While this well probably does come out, I'm not about to spend minutes trying to carefully wiggle it out. I have arthritis in my hands. There is nothing to grip. One would have to put their fingers into the place the filter goes and wrap the fingers around the bottom rungs and pull. I have tried to return it and it is not a returnable item. (Which I can understand for health reasons - though I didn't use it.) I've written to Brita.

This is a decent, basic filter. I don't have the means to test the water scientifically, but water filtered through this pitcher definitely tastes better. The way it's designed, though, it's easy for unfiltered water to spill into the filtered portion. I'm using this filter as a precaution; I wouldn't use it if I knew my water was contaminated.
The unfiltered water reservoir holds about 5 cups. To fill the pitcher, you'll need to fill the reservoir twice. This takes about 5 minutes for 5 cups, and slightly more than twice as long for 10.
The pitcher is not easy to clean because the top portion doesn't come off. It's also made of cheap plastic, so I wouldn't expect this to last more than a year or two.
The spout is small and the pitcher pours slowly.
Edit: Be careful when choosing filters. Brita has standard and long-lasting filters. The obvious difference is that the long-lasting filters last twice as long. The less obvious difference is that they filter different chemicals. Be sure to do your research.

We've used Brita pitchers for decades & really like them. Our last Brita pitcher began leaking unfiltered water between the filter & the tube. We thought it might be the new style of filters & called Customer Service. They asked us to open up all the filters and try each one. We had purchased two packs of 3 & let them know this. Each did the same. Customer Service sent us ONE pack of 3. Disappointing. But we purchased a new (same model) pitcher. This solved the leakage problem. We've decided to purchase a Berkey which will be more economical in the long run.
Edit: I forgot to mention that with my arthritis & carpal tunnel the full pitcher is so heavy it is painful to pick up.
The new pitcher has a different lid which makes the stream of filtered water pour quite a bit more slowly.

Only had it for 3 months and it cracked near the handle! Our previous brita filter lasted more then 18 months before we decided to buy a new one. With the new style lid, we thought it would be a nice upgrade
But it's already cracked! We leave it on the kitchen counter, refill it in the sink right next to it so it doesn't hit anything and it's never been dropped . Is 8t just weakness in the construction or materials used?
We are over the deadline for returning this, but may need to purchase another kind . Sigh

At first, nothing was wrong, it was normal water that my husband and I drank every day. This past month has been hell, I feel sick all the time now and his teeth have been in so much pain. I don't understand how a filter can do that when the brita bottles are 100% fine. I'm aggrivated that I spent money on two of these just to get sick off of them. Not worth it. Don't buy it unless you want to feel like hurling anytime you eat or drink.
