5.0 out of 5 starsNot the disney version, no enchanted castle, but I loved this modern take on the old classic.

Not the disney version, no enchanted castle, but I loved this modern take on the old classic. And Belle's voice did match that of the disney version. The acting in the beginning was a bit off, I thought "uh oh", but I'm glad I stayed through to the end.

1.0 out of 5 starsI only stuck with it to see how mean Beast could get
September 20, 2018
I realized how terrible this movie was going to be about 30 sec. in, and literally only stuck with it to see how far the Beast 's d**k-headed-ness could actually go. Ultimately, believe it or not, I've seen worse movies. I actually thought Belle's acting was decent enough... Eric aka The Beast on the other hand...his acting was sooo bad. I think it got a modicum better when he started acting nicer, so I guess the guy is better at acting nice than mean? I dunno. Then I personally hate how they never show the Beast apologize to Belle's father for chewing him out the way he did. If you're going to date someone's child you need to make amends w/ the family if you wronged one of them...
And then there's Craig (Belle's friend's cousin). 😤
That guy was a f-ing creeper, point blank period.
So desperate, clingy, couldn't take "no" for an answer, and couldn't take a frickin' hint either! He barely knows Belle, has been on *one* date w/ her (that she cut short) and yet by the middle of the movie decides she's "The One" for him.
😒he just pushes and pushes, acting like Belle needs to listen to him and they aren't even friends...I can't stand characters like that. He was borderline-psychotic.
This movie even reminded me of 50 Shades of Grey (lol) in that the main character is an a-hole and abusive, but hey, he's also rich and handsome so it's all good in the end...all it took was for that "special", sweet, nice, pure girl to come along and make the jerk want to change his ways 'cuz she's, ya know, soooo special...newsflash that rarely ever works in real life. Speaking from personal experience.
All-in-all the movie had potential but it just fell flat for me in many ways...

4.0 out of 5 starsHow various people react to adversity.

Best acting? Maybe not. However, anyone who has ever lost a spouse to sudden death understands and can relate to the pain, bewilderment, and yes, the sometimes consuming anger portrayed in this film. It is consoling to see how God never lets go and walks with you as you work through the loss.

4.0 out of 5 starsCHEMISTRY WORKS

Not an especially believable leading man and woman -- he is too 'over-the-top' verbally abusive in the beginning; she is too perfect. I got to like him, though, as the acting enabled the other side of his character to emerge. As for Belle, her beauty and goodness don't quite ring true as the character -- whether the fault of the script, direction, or actor -- has a robotic quality. There is no scene in which her hair is out of place or her outfit not buttoned down [so to speak]. Though respectful of Belle and her Christian attitude toward life, the rich 'jerk' is the one in the pair that holds our attention -- not because he is a better person but because he is more believable as a human being. And yet, despite these reservations, the pair does click on some level and the romance works.

3.0 out of 5 starsDidn't convert me to christianity but definitely converted me to love.
January 26, 2019

Ladies and gentlemen—I'm back. Earlier, I reviewed the movie "Pitching Love and Catching Faith" and proclaimed it to be the worst movie I'd ever seen. That title now belongs to "Belle and the Beast: A Christian Romance". I watched this with a good friend—we often watch trashy movies together and couldn't wait to give this a whirl. Boy oh boy, was this a whirl. The acting: horrible. Truly unbelievable. I'm assuming these were all first-time actors reading from a teleprompter, because that is the ONLY scenario that makes sense. The plot: questionable. Not bad, but not good either. Very...average. Craig: Creepy as hell. 0/10 absolutely disgusting. As a whole, it was terrible. Definitely do not watch alone. However, watch with a friend for a guaranteed good time. 10/10 good laugh. In the words of my movie buddy, "It didn't convert me to Christianity but it definitely converted me to love."

5.0 out of 5 starsGet past the first half hour and watch it as you would a fairy tale!

Yes, as other reviewers have mentioned, the acting is sub-par... in the beginning. After a while, though, the characters become more comfortable with their on-screen personas and the stiltedness eases. Stephanie Wood, who plays Belle, is excellent from the beginning. She really is the star of this production.
Regarding the movie, though, I thought the interpretation was excellent! Very well done transition to a modern day scenario. It IS written from a Christian perspective, so that might put people off who do not follow that particular faith, but there's no Bible punching in this movie. They do discuss death and loss from a Christian perspective, but in such a way that it is a normal discussion between a believer and a non-believer. (The cheesy "bad things happen to good people" should never have been allowed into the final copy, though. Fire the editor! LOL)
As in the original novel, Belle goes to the "Beast" aka Eric Landry, to plead for her father and agrees to work for Eric to pay off her father's debt. Her sweet nature and caring personality seep into the cracks in Eric's hard heart and make him aware that he cannot turn his back on the world. The "rampaging villagers" ended up being Belle's suitor, Craig (or Greg, I wasn't sure!) who, rejected by her, causes trouble for Eric to get her to leave him. This succeeds in driving Belle away, but not, as he hoped, into Craig's arms. I won't give away the plot by telling you what he does or how it is all resolved, but it does follow the original novel fairly faithfully.
Overall, I chose this as I needed a feel good movie to watch as I was doing manual labor (stuffing goodie bags) and I thoroughly enjoyed it once I got past the very still first half hour. Recommended, especially for families of younger children, Christian families of all ages, and anyone who still believes in the magic of true love!

5.0 out of 5 stars5 stars for the scenery
December 23, 2018
Format: Prime VideoVerified Purchase
We enjoyed the movie but, realized we were watching it again because of the scenery. We had a difficult time finding out the locations because the movie goes by a few different titles. As it turns out, it was filmed in Utah. The story is interesting. The characters were likeable. Belle's acting came through when she was running late for class and her sister called for help. Got the feeling that wasn't really acting that was truly how she would respond. But, effective. Eric the beast wasn't bad. He, at times appeared stiff. When Belle cried. We all cried because Belle's crying was just awful. It appears in the next shot that followed, water was thrown on her face to smear her makeup? Overall, a great message about overcoming adversity.

2.0 out of 5 starsCheesy, Sweet, but lacking
June 24, 2019
Format: Prime VideoVerified Purchase
This movie was sweet. Beauty works for the Beast, ends up softening his heart, and they fall in love. However, the sets, dialogue, and acting were not up to par. There were obvious mistakes between scenes, like a shelf of books that was supposed to be alphabetized but all the book were in the same places as before. Or when you hear the dialogue but not the sewing machine that the character is using. Not all low-budget films are bad, but some are just not good. It also says it is a Christian film. The Christian elements were very sidelined however. "God wants us to be happy," was the motto and it doesn't even fit in the main storyline. (Somewhat spoiler alert) The beast's, Erik, wife passed away in a tragic car accident. He turns to alcohol and eventually has to turns his life around, but he blames God for everything. The defense that the filmmakers give us is that the experience is supposed to "grow" you and you are supposed to "learn" through it. There was little to no talk of mourning or even going through the grieving process. There was no talk of God's strength or what to do when doubt comes you way. As a Christian I can say that I agree, tough times are going to change and grow you. But how can happiness be that cure? God wants us to trust and obey Him. Not try to put words in His mouth.
I would have liked to have seen actual scripture discussed, maybe a church service, or a small group gathering, rather than Bibles on the shelf and over the shoulder reading. The Christian elements just felt forced. almost like if you were having a meal and ate one piece of broccoli instead of the full plate. There is something substantial, but its too little to be of any value.
The romance element was really sweet though. I liked seeing the character development with the beast. I have to say that they really did stretch things out a lot. Even though it was an hour and a half, it felt much longer.
Like all cheesy romances. This one was sweet, but lacking. It's good if you want to watch something that does not keep you in suspense. But otherwise, I would not recommend this movie.

This was very beautiful. Life with hardship can make one bitter but with the gentleness and kindness of a lovely person it can soften the heart and let love flow through. Thank God for the kindness of those who refuse to let bitterness thrive God has set me free from the bitterness that life has thrown at me but I am working through the pain with the loving help of those who love God. Thank you. I know that kindness wins for those who endure through it.

I wish I could have given it a 4 minus stars. The acting and scenery was choppy at times, particularly the first half of the movie. Nonetheless, it was a sweet movie. Given a higher budget - a few different actors, particularly the wanna be boyfriend, it could have been sweeter. I felt the two main characters did a pretty good job, the woman who played Belle, did a nice job in this movie. She was definitely the best actor and I would watch her in other movies. Nice premise.
