The Balega Ultralight are very thin and rather smaller--especially in comparison to the other models. I've bought size Large in every sock, and they vary quite a bit. If you like thin, small socks, you may like the ultralight. Or go a size big if you want them to fit more comfortably.
On the other hand, the Blister Resist were way too thick and large. They had so much excess material that they felt horrible and my feet moved around in them. They are very hot. The material on the top of the foot is actually very thin, but the bottom makes up for it. That said, They make a comfortable sock to walk around in on my wood floors in the winter. Since I won't run in them, I give them use around the house.
The Hidden Contour and Hidden Comfort are similar. The Hidden Comfort are a tad thicker. They are both a bit thicker and larger than the Soft Tread socks, but they are comfortable and nicer for winter weather, when I tend to wear them running. If I were buying more, I'd go for the Hidden Comfort. Mine have stayed superbly comfortable longer than the Hidden Contour and still feel more padded.
I like the Soft Tread best because they are thick enough to be padded and comfortable, but I have to pull them snug on my feet so there is no room for my feet to move against the sock. Also, they are not so thick that I feel my feet get hot -- and I run in 100 degree Texas summer weather. Finally, the Soft Tread are made R and L foot specific, which I've found to be helpful for fit. The Ultralights are as well, but not the other three models, if I recall correctly. Though the Hidden Comfort came with an L on each sock, that stands for "Large", not "Left". Also, the heel tabs on a lot of these sock models, including this one, are great and do a lot to make sure the sock stays in place.
Hopefully this review helps a few folks decide what Balega sock might be best for them if they're looking to purchase. If you have questions, comment and I'll try to answer them.
I usually don't spend much on socks and just get low cut sports socks at Target. I barely fit into them because I am a size 10 shoe in women's. I decided recently to get professionally fitted for running/sprinting shoes at Runner's Depot. I got an AMAZING pair of shoes there which fit like a dream. I realized the socks I normally wear were actually too small (they were pulling a bit on my toes) and it started to annoy me, so I decided I would try some different socks to go with my new running shoes. I ordered these in the hopes that the size and comfort would be what I wanted (thin for running). WOW. These are the most comfortable socks I have ever put on. I haven't gone running in them yet, but I will update as soon as I go out for another run. I ordered the large and I have plenty of room in my toe area without there being any excess material. I can tell the socks would stretch and easily fit a larger foot and still be comfortable. Very excited to try them out.
*** Update: I purchased 2 pairs of these socks (one in this color and one in neon green). They lose their smoothness quickly by getting fuzzy easily. They are also thicker than I wanted, but also cushy and comfortable because of the thickness. They can cause a bit of sliding in your shoes if they are not laced tightly, but I was able to rectify that issue without my shoes getting too tight. I'm a bit disappointed at how easily they can get snagged on anything (basic kitchen tile grout was enough to snag the bottom and pull loops out) and how quickly they get fuzzy since this is the most I've paid for socks. But overall, they are still really comfortable, give my toes room (which most socks don't as I am a size 10 in women's shoes), and don't slide down when I'm wearing them. They feel good on my runs with my laces a little tighter. I am giving 4 stars.
the quality is the best i have tried since I've taken up running. Nike running socks are harsh feel horrible against my feet and I get terrible blisters. Since wearing balega, i have not experienced this issue again. I now think that wearing top quality socks is as important or even more important that buying the right shoe.
I love these Balega Ultralight socks. They are comfortable. They do NOT slip down. They are sturdy and do not lose their shape, color, or fabric consistency through many wearings, washes, and drying. Best of all, they are thin enough! My feet swell at the end of the day, and especially while I am working out, and these are the only socks that do not make my feet feel like they are suffocating in my already 1/2 size larger tennies (to offset the swelling). I would and do re-purchase these and would recommend them to anybody.
My favorite socks. I wear the with my scrubs on my feet all day in the medical field. Helps keep my feet dry with long days. Wear them for work outs and long walks. Never have had a blister. They hold up great. They are light weight and no seams or bumps at the toes. So comfortable. I will be purchasing more
So, I'm a spender. But I like to spend on things I WANT, not things I need. Specifically not SOCKS.
These. are. the. bomb. I will never work out with any other socks. They are pricey but I learned that you get what you pay for. I'll never wear another totally cotton sock to work out again. I highly recommend these.
These are very soft and comfortable. My daughter only wears Balega lightweight to run, almost every day. She loves these and they wash well. Very soft to being with but after about 6-8 washes, they are not as soft but still functionable. Thanks!
I have purchased a dozen pair of Balega socks and in my opinion they are the best athletic sock made. But something wasn't right about these 2 pairs. They were very thin, and the threads all started breaking loose on top of the sock after the first washing. Hmmmmm.........wondering if these were knock-offs.
It's hard to beat Balega socks they're really comfortable and durable. I bought one pair of these for my wife and she likes them so much I have ordered two more pairs. I have other styles that have lasted for over three years so I'm very happy with the quality.
I LOVE these socks. I found the other socks a bit too thick for my day to day workouts. I would probably like them better if I was running 10+ miles at a time, but I do mostly spin, boot camps (with time spent running), and <45 minute runs. These are lightweight, comfortable, and the higher flap in the back protects your heels. I now own 4.
I love these socks. They are cute and colorful, and they don’t make my feet hot while exercising. Since I like a tight shoe, I prefer thin socks. Pro: —The elastic stays up on the ankle —Colorful —Wicks h20 away Con: —Might be too tight for you? Perfect for me! —Price is high. You only get one pair.
