I used the Beach Body DVDs when I was younger. Now that I’m 70 I needed something to keep the joints and muscles flexible to prevent falling and pulled muscles. This DVD provides the type of easy exercises to keep my body healthy without much strain and stress. Much better than walking as it exercises the joints/muscles in shock free movements your joints can handle. Even the seated exercises help you stay in shape, just slow down and do them at the speed Jane does them. The upper body exercises with light weights keeps the chest and arm muscles firm. At 70 you’re not building muscle like a 20 year old, just maintaining to avoid sprains/strains.
I do about 45 minutes every morning and feel great all day. Wish I would have discovered this 5 years ago when I retired and had aches/pains and balance worries. If you want to really enjoy retirement you need to keep your body healthy. Get the DVD, do a little at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be moving with confidence and feeling great! Time to get healthy and enjoy retirement. 👍🏻 Thanks Jane Adams!
I am going to donate this DVD to my mother-in-law's senior care home. I am 57 and fairly fit; bought this to work on flexibility but the exercises are not challenging enough for me and the pace is extremely slow. Also, the narrator's high-pitched "kindergarten teacher" voice drove me batty after about 5 minutes, although I'm sure some would find it soothing. I would recommend Essentrics instead for stretching & balance for those who want a little more of a challenge.
I love this DVD! I particularly like the 31 minute balance and strength workout with a chair. It feels like moving meditation!!! I have been doing it every day of a month now and am fining a significant difference in my balance. Jane's voice is so soothing and the backdrop of Glacier National Park is amazing. Since I purchased my first tape I have purchased 2 additional DVD's as gifts for friends. Love this!!
Update: Have two more friends who have purchased this DVD. I am now addicted to doing the 17 minute Tai Chi Full Mobility Practice session. Thank you, Jane, for a wonderful workout DVD. I have also downloaded the 2 sessions I use most to my Kindle so I can do them anywhere.
As a Physical Therapist who works a lot with seniors, and who is now a senior herself, I am always looking for options for my clients to do on their own. I found this to be an excellent video for the average senior, one who wants to work specifically on balance and flexibility, core and hip stability, and general body awareness. The risk of falling increases dramatically as we age, so anything we can do to improve strength and proprioception is a big plus. If you are currently taking Zumba classes and CrossFit, this is probably not going to be vigorous enough for you, although you might be surprised what you could learn. I particularly appreciated her special instructions to those with joint replacements, as they often need to alter their form for safety reasons. I am going to spend a little more time with this video to fully appreciate it, and will likely start recommending it to appropriate clients of mine. Well done.
I'm a beginner and thought this dvd would be too easy and would not do anything for me. I was wrong. I can feel muscles that I haven't felt for a long time. I can see that this will get me to start moving and help me to do other exercises that I know I will need. I feel like Jane is looking out for me because she instills a sense of calmness and allows for a newbie to be able to keep up with all the movements. The strength movements with the weights are especially beneficial. I repeat the sessions when I think I need I need more resistance workouts. I'm glad I ordered this dvd.
I've only had the DVD for about a week, but I can already see improvements in balance. The exercises are very low impact and slow. In addition to balance improvement, the exercises are relaxing and instill a peaceful feeling. The background contributes much to these feelings.
Bought for my 70yo mom who has mentioned her balance is becoming a concern for her when she travels and hikes. I tried parts of the video before I gave it to her to make sure I thought it was a good fit for her needs. The good news is, I loved it! The menu was much larger than expected, the video is well made, the Tai Chi is fun and it was perfect for her. The bad news is, I discovered I have the balance of a 1yo so I need to buy a copy for myself!
My husband and I have been using this DVD for a month now and love it! It offers many different options from short to longer sessions and different types of exercises, so we can choose different areas to concentrate on, and we can mix and match our choices to add variety to our workouts each day. Having the minutes for each session displayed in the main menu helps us fit the workouts to the time frame we have allotted for exercise. The Tai Chi section breaks the movements down so the forms are easy to follow and learn. The setting for the background is beautiful and helps set the mood. My husband and I are seniors, and the exercises are at the perfect level for us, mildly challenging, but not breathtakingly difficult. We have both noticed improved balance, flexibility and coordination since we have been using it. This has become our favorite exercise DVD, and I would buy it again.
I'm a 60 year old regular exerciser and purchased this video to help improve my balance. My mother has had some bad falls with many broken bones and I'm trying to avoid that. I was looking for something that would take into account my age and also something that didn't have any spiritual component. This video is a great addition to my exercise library.
I use this video on light days or as an extra stress reliever. The scenery is beautiful and Jane's voice is very calming. The time seems to fly by when I use this, so it's also great for days when I realllly don't want to exercise. I always feel better and more relaxed after doing her exercises.
Jane does a very good job taking you through each of the 8 Tai Chi forms. Some are more challenging than others and I'm still trying to get the hang of the last 3. I would suggest working on the individual forms for a while and then trying the practicing the 8 forms section. The full-body mobility practice can be done even if you haven't tried all the forms.
Because of the chair exercises, this dvd would also be good for people with limited mobility. I think it could be useful in an assisted living facility or senior center.
I'm pleased with this purchase and have already seen an improvement with my balance.
