Top critical review
This was a mistake.

It was, I had read the first book and it wasn't so much a story as a outline for a possible book. It was terribly written with literally no character development and an appalling lack of detail. For kicks I went to read a review on book two and purchased it by mistake.
So here I am, rather than delete the purchase I read it. That too was a mistake. Here's the frustrating bit with Martin's writing ... The premise is there, but the story telling isn't. For example this episode has the narrator have its only romantic relationship in the whole book. It was two paragraphs, from onset to conclusion. This relationship sets up the conflict for the climax of the book, yet other than a commentary on cooking, was less than half a page. These are other examples where it lacks continuity, editing, detailed descriptions and unfortunately this is a continuation of the first work. Ultimately Martin needs a writing partner, someone who can take his ideas and really flesh them out because sadly this could have been an epic tale.
