5.0 out of 5 stars"" Fraud via Direct TV""
July 28, 2018
Beware!! There is a phone scam going on. You will receive a phone call from DIRECT TV stating that you will receive a very low monthly charge for your Direct TV and internet service if you will pay 4 months in advance with an Amazon gift card ($240). This is a very sophisticated scam. If you ask to think about it and call them back later, you get the AT&T tone and recording just like the real thing. We fell for it so are out $240. AT&T/Direct TV has been of no help and in fact says they have no intention of notifying customers of this potential scam. Amazon fraud was very helpful and in fact tried to back track the gift card, but in the end could not trace the call (probably because of AT&Ts lack of help. Anyway, I thank Amazon for trying. Our big mistake, so remember, paying for a gift card and giving the cash out number to anyone that promises service is a no, no. We feel stupid, so be smart.

1.0 out of 5 starsDONT USE THE TEXT MESSAGE OPTION!!!
December 18, 2017
I like the idea of the eGift cards, but when you choose the option of delivery through a text message, the recipient may not get it. Also, there is no way to cancel the order through your account portal...you have to contact someone at Amazon customer service who will then send you an email with a link that you have to go to.

I would not recommend an eGift card through a text message to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 starsUm, it's a gift card. It's like buying money.

Yeah, so this is a gift card. But it has an "e" in front of it, and as we all know, that stands for "elephant". So when I ordered this I did NOT get an elephant gift card. Instead they somehow electronically wizzer-wanged some kinda number that I typed into my amazon account and by some magical wizardage the value matched exactly what I ordered. And there was even some kind of bonus promo too, so woo-hoo and all that stuff. I deducted one star because they're not always selling them at a discount. Yeah, I know that sounds harsh but I'm used to buying gift cards at least 10% off. Call me cheap. Just don't call me collect. =P

Overall, they work exactly as they should.

I have used these eGift cards now for years; for decades! Not only have I emailed them as gifts to friends and relatives, but I have received them as gifts and also as rewards for any number of different tasks. These Amazon eGift cards are the best, because there is a whole world of different ways to spend them. And they are always reliable. They are never messed up because of some detail nobody ever heard of. I have never, ever been ripped off by these gift cards.

I purchased and received several gift Amazon e-gift cards in the last few days. Had zero issues with redeeming them. Just make sure you tell the reciever that they are getting a e-gift card so they can redeem them right away and and keep the balance in their Amazon account until they feel like using it so there won't be issues the way some have mentioned.

My son prefers amazon gift cards as payment for doing extra chores around the house. Love the ease of purchasing and sending these to him via text message.
Better than cash for the giver and receiver.

Our niece was getting ready to have a baby, so we checked her registry for what she needed. After a couple of attempts to purchase from that registry, I gave up and wondered why I even bothered. I just went to amazon and sent her a gift card. I bought the card, copied the code, and gave it to her on messenger. Quick, easy, and she was quite happy.

5.0 out of 5 starsEasy To Order, Recipient Is So Thankful
November 11, 2018
Gift Amount: 50Design Name: Black Amazon AVerified Purchase
Amazon gift cards are so useful and helpful. For birthdays, holidays and other 8mportant dates, I use the gift cards to give people I love a chance to purchase something for themselves.

This is so convenient, order on line and the recipient can pick up their gift on line. Or you can have the gift card sent. I like to have gift cards for my UPS and Mail people as thank you gifts. Amazon has such a vast supply of products for people to choose from, who could resist?

Recommended. prisrob 11-11-18

Ummm... it's a virtual gift card. Kudos Amazon on the fast 'shipping'? Not sure what they expect for a review, but I actually had a couple prepaid Visa cards with just a couple dollars on them each. I was tired of carrying them around and had a difficult time getting a store to accept them as partial payment. I used them to buy some Amazon eGift cards and then added those to my own Amazon account. Problem solved.

4.0 out of 5 starsA Discussion of Amazon's Discredited Gift Card System
June 11, 2017
Gift Amount: 50Design Name: Black Amazon AVerified Purchase
I was super hesitant to gift this card to a friend. She was going above & beyond helping me in school & I wanted to thank her. Since I don't know her well outside of school, I couldn't think of a gift card with as much variety--somewhere she could find almost anything: from textbooks or school supplies; books for personal reading to DVDs; to whatever's she's into personally: clothes, accessories, etc.

Back to my first statement about my trepidation: as I was getting ready to order the card, I read some of the reviews.
They were no less than scalding! Major horror stories all abound!

I hoped for the best & even wrote the giftee an email asking her to let me know if she had any problems. She redeemed immediately without a problem.
I admit, I was very relieved, yet I suspect I may be an exception to the rule--a relatively rare success story. Smooth, successful transactions should be the NORM. Mistakes should be extreme rare, esp considering the supposed credibility of this company. But the ratio of successful vs. unsuccessful transactions seems very skewed.
In other words:
Any problem associated with purchasing a simple gift card from a credible online store like Amazon should be a statistical anomaly!

I also think this speaks volumes: A LOT of people put a decent amount of work & investigation into getting their money back, esp given the common theme of thievery.
& Am I crazy to think the responsibility of stolen gift cards lies within Amazon's purview, given that they consistently tout about how it is such a secure & reliable place to shop?!

The massive amount of detailed complaints would lead anyone to deduce that a problem DOES exist & Amazon needs to beef up its gift card security system.

Many stories told of the redemption codes being stolen & of Amazon being loathe to take responsibility, stating they were not liabile. They'd advise customers to contact another such&such office, who would then tell them to contact another such&such office. & on--and-on that would go.
They wrap you up in so much red tape & make you jump through so many hoops, it's completely understandable that people simply give up on the idea that they will ever get their money back.

& I wouldn't be surprised if the reimbursement system is deliberately set up to discourage customers by making the process so complex.

Luckily I had no problems, but I would advise anyone considering purchasing an Amazon gift card to first read some of the reviews in which someone whose money was stolen details the entire hellish process they went through to get reimbursed. (Yes, a few made it to the end!)

There is an over abundance of negative reviews with corresponding horror stories. FOR A SIMPLE ONLINE GIFT CARD!!-- far more than there should be, which is quite indicative of an inherent systemic flaw that is being ignored.

Again I'd advise assessing risk vs. reward. Educate yourself. If you had some other places to buy gift cards in mind, you may want to go with one of them instead. Especially if you are considering purchasing a card of $100 or more.

'I just wanted to speak out on behalf of anyone who trusted Amazon; wanted to generously give someone a gift; & then got totally screwed. (& then likely embarrassed when the giftee contacted them, saying, 'um my redemption code work. What should I do?'
