I'm reading Atlas Shrugged right now. It's ok, and I seem to have some things in common with her. But her characters seem to dismiss their emotions as being irrelevant, and the one point I have against objectivism is it's not wholly objective. the fact that there is an objective means there is a desire which pushes the logic, an end, a goal. happiness is the goal, or her word: joy. Logic is funny in the fact that one person uses it to build a theory, another uses it to destroy it. complete objectivity means the use of logic with no goal in mind, and that could lead to circular reasoning - you could find yourself eventually on the opposite side of the argument from which you started due to not knowing when to stop (no goal in mind) or if you did choose to stop, the choice must be arbitrary as you have nothing but your emotions to guide you (as in, is this what I wanted, does this make me happy or no?)

I actually havent read Rand. Could anyone give me a synopsis of her central idea? I actually liked some of Marxs writing since it got you thinking outside of traditional capitalistic thought and provided some good critiques of it. However, his overall theory was flawed, too static and too idealistic. I've only read essays by him not the full Kapital series.
